Encounters at the end of the world -- What camera?

I've been trying to find out what camera Werner Herzog and his cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger used to shoot the stunning images in the new documentary Encounters at the End Of The World.

The cinematography in this movie is wonderful.

According to IMDB the format was HDV. On the commentary track Zeitlinger says only that the camera was one of the first Sony Blu Ray camcorders. Will keep checking...

Definitely looked like video. Could have been breathtaking if he shot IMAX, but unfortunately a Herzog film would struggle to get the budget for that, and it would be quite a challenge to support a large crew and retain the mobility Herzog wanted when shooting this film. I enjoyed the movie and found the images quite amazing but thought they could have spent some more time in post to really clean up some shots that had exposure , color, and stabilization issues.
